Riaan Burger

Riaan Burger is the Chief Executive Officer of Namdeb Diamond Corporation, Namibia’s iconic diamond mining company. Since his appointment as CEO in November 2017, he has guided the company through a period of significant transformation, operational renewal and long-term sustainability planning. A mechanical engineer by profession, Riaan holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree and an MBA from Stellenbosch University. He brings more than three decades of experience in engineering, mining operations, strategic planning, organisational transformation and executive leadership. Riaan joined Namdeb in 1995 and has since held a succession of senior leadership positions across the business, spanning engineering, strategic projects, general management and operations. Prior to becoming CEO, he served as Chief Operating Officer, where he played a central role in developing innovative mining methods, advancing major strategic projects and driving organisational change. During his tenure, Riaan has led initiatives that have extended Namdeb’s operational life, secured long-term investment in its mining operations and strengthened the company’s contribution to Namibia’s economy, communities and broader development objectives. He serves on several boards and industry bodies and became a member of the De Beers Group Executive Committee in 2022. He has also contributed to organisations focused on economic development, conservation and aviation.
